Bath Time With Baby - The Essentials
Bath Time with Baby 🛁 Bath time can be one of the sweetest parts of your day with baby. The warmth of the water, the calm rhythm of washing, and the giggles that follow all help to build those special moments of connection. Most little ones love the gentle splash of bath time, but if your baby isn’t quite a fan at first, don’t worry – it can take time. 💧 There’s no need to bathe baby every day – on quieter days, a quick top and tail (hands, face, and bottom) is enough to keep them feeling fresh. But when it is bath night, having everything ready can make all the difference. We recommend setting out your essentials beforehand: baby soap, a gentle shampoo, a soft flannel, and post-bath must-haves like a fluffy towel, a nappy, and clean clothes. 👶 Skip the jewellery during bath time to avoid any accidental scratches. And always check the water temperature before placing baby in the bath. The Shnuggle Pebbly Bath Thermometer lights up to let you know when the water’s just right – no guesswork needed. If you don’t have one handy, test the water with the inside of your wrist – it should feel warm, not hot. 🌡️ 🎥 New to bathing your baby? Watch our step-by-step guide linked here for gentle techniques and safety tips to help you feel more confident. Here are a few of our favourite bath-time essentials to help you get started with confidence. Shnuggle Baby Bath The Shnuggle Bath is a game-changer. Suitable from newborn to around 12 months, it features a supportive bump to help prevent slipping and a comfy foam backrest to keep baby cosy. Plus, it’s compact enough to fit in most kitchen sinks and uses just two litres of water – win-win. 🛁 Shnuggle Bath Stand Pair your bath with the Shnuggle Folding Bath Stand to bring baby up to waist height. A great option for easing back strain and ideal if you're recovering from birth. Shnuggle Toddler Bath When your little one starts to outgrow their newborn bath, the Shnuggle Toddler Bath offers extra room to play while still supporting their growing body with a padded backrest and non-slip surface. It's compact enough to fit into most bathrooms. Stokke Flexi Bath Need a space-saving or travel-friendly option? The Stokke Flexi Bath folds flat and can be used from newborn to age four (or up to six with the Extra Large Flexi Bath). It even has a clever plug that changes colour if the water’s too hot or cold – keeping bath time safe and simple. Muslin Wash Cloths Muslin Washcloths are a must-have for those early newborn days. Their soft, breathable fabric is kind on delicate skin – just what you need for gentle washes and little clean-ups. Lightweight and quick to dry, they’re practical for everyday use and only get softer with each wash. Gentle shampoo and cleanser Scullys Baby Shampoo & Body Wash is a gentle 2-in-1 formula made with soothing natural ingredients like chamomile and lavender. It’s tear-free, calming, and kind on sensitive skin – perfect for your new little one’s daily wash. An easy, nourishing choice for bath time that both you and baby will love. At Dimples, we’ve curated the best options to make bath time not just practical, but joyful. Whether you’re bathing your newborn for the very first time or transitioning to toddler tub life, we’re here to help every step of the way. 🐣✨

Sleep Struggles? These Soothers Might Just Save Your Sanity 😴 There’s nothing quite like the hopeful moment when you lay your baby down to sleep… followed by the crushing sound of a whimper, shuffle, or full blown cry. If your little one finds it hard to settle, or just can’t seem to stay asleep - a good sleep soother could make all the difference. White noise and gentle sound machines help to mask the everyday background noise that can disturb your baby’s rest. Think: older siblings, barking dogs, or the neighbour deciding now’s the time to mow the lawn. These soothing sounds - like a heartbeat, waves, or soft shushing - mimic what baby heard in the womb, helping them relax and drift off more easily. We’ve curated a handy Quiz to help you make a decision, plus a small but mighty collection of trusted sleep soothers and calming aids below, that can help take the edge off bedtime - for both you and your baby. YogaSleep Hushh 2 White Noise Machine Compact, rechargeable, and seriously effective — the YogaSleep Hushh 2 is the sound machine you’ll wish you bought sooner. It offers several soothing sound options (including the classic white noise hum, surf, and gentle fan) and lets you customise volume and tone. The real standout is the glow-in-the-dark nightlight — gentle enough not to disturb baby, but just right when you’re fumbling for the dummy at 2 a.m. With a simple clip for attaching to prams, car seats or bassinets, this is your go-to for sleep on the move. Or, just clip it to your sanity and go about your day. No judgement here. YogaSleep Nod Sound Machine and Night Light The YogaSleep Nod is the ultimate stay-at-home sleep station — perfect for setting up a consistent, calming bedtime routine in the nursery. It features 20 sleep sounds, including white noise, fan sounds, lullabies, and nature tracks, so you can tailor the soundscape to your baby’s preferences. What makes it a standout? The built-in nightlight, which emits a warm amber glow to create a peaceful sleep space without overstimulating your baby. You can also set sleep timers or run it all night long — ideal for little ones who are easily stirred. Simple, soothing, and super customisable, the Nod helps create the kind of sleep environment you’ll both appreciate. Sleepytot Portable White Noise Machine & Nightlight If you’re looking for a multi-tasking marvel, the Sleepytot Portable White Noise Machine ticks a lot of boxes. It has a built-in rechargeable battery (USB charging = no more hunting for AAs), multiple white noise sounds to choose from, and a soft nightlight built in. Whether you’re heading out for the day or just trying to settle baby at home, this little helper is easy to toss in the nappy bag and use wherever you are. Simple to use, easy to love — and surprisingly effective when nothing else seems to be working. The Baby Shusher Sloth You’ve heard of the Baby Shusher — now meet its adorable new friend Shusher Sloth! This sweet sloth still uses the same rhythmic “shhh” sound that mimics a parent’s voice and taps into your baby’s natural calming reflexes. It’s a surprisingly effective technique (and one backed by science, not just tired parents). The sloth’s cuddly design means it doubles as a comfort toy, and the shushing sound is timed to switch off after 15 or 30 minutes — giving you a bit of peace without draining the battery. With a built-in timer and innovative sound activation, Shusher Sloth can listen for your baby’s cries and respond by soothing them back to sleep. Bonus: it’s small enough to take on the go, and far less exhausting than manually shushing for 45 minutes straight. Storytime and Soothing Light for Sweet Dreams Another beautiful way to support your child’s sleep is by building a calming, familiar bedtime routine – and the CloudBox™ helps make that easy. This clever little device plays comforting bedtime stories while gently projecting sleepy visuals onto the ceiling or wall. With a soothing mix of audio and light, it creates a multisensory environment that helps children wind down at the end of the day. You can choose from the preloaded stories or record your own – a lovely way to keep bedtime personal, even when you can’t be there in person. Repeating the same story or image each night can become part of your child’s sleep ritual, providing a sense of security and consistency they can count on. Simple to use and designed for children from birth and up, the CloudBox™ is a thoughtful addition to any nighttime routine – helping little ones feel calm, safe, and ready for sleep. Supporting Sleep, Naturally For many families, Magnesium Rescue has become a much loved part of their wind-down ritual. This gentle, topical formula is made from natural ingredients and can be massaged into your child’s back, tummy, or feet at bedtime. It’s designed to help support a relaxed nervous system – a simple, non-invasive way to encourage calm before sleep. Another lovely option is the Bedtime Bestie - a lightweight magnesium mist infused with calming lavender, designed to support relaxation and make bedtime a little easier. Simply spritz it onto your child’s back or feet as part of your evening routine. It’s a fuss-free way to help little bodies and busy minds slow down – one small spray at a time. Learn moreRotating car seats – should you choose one?
Getting a wriggly toddler into a car seat shouldn’t feel like a workout. That’s why rotating car seats are quickly becoming a go-to for modern parents. In this blog, we explore how they work and why so many families are making the switch. From extended rear and front facing options to reducing back strain, we’ll help you decide whether a rotating car seat is the right choice for your growing family. Benefits of a Rotating Car Seat Easier access in and out of the car - The swivel function turns the seat towards the door, making it easier to get your child in and out of the car without awkward angles. With the seat facing you, it is easier to correctly position and tighten the harness, helping ensure your child is safely secured every time. Reduced strain on your back - Rotating the seat towards you helps minimise bending, twisting, and reaching, which can help prevent back and shoulder strain, especially with growing toddlers. This also helps parents (or grandparents) recovering from birth, injury, or surgery, or those with limited mobility, who often find rotating seats easier and more comfortable to use. Rear and front facing options - While your child is young, rear facing car seats are recommended for their safety. Though you want to keep them rear facing as long as possible (according to weight and height restrictions), you will eventually need to switch to forward facing, which is made incredibly easy with the swivel feature. You also have multiple angle options to recline the seat and can change all of these settings without having to re-install the entire seat. Things to Consider Before Buying Weight limits - Most (though not all) rotating car seats have a weight limit of 18kgs because of the isofix installation. On average, that’s around four years old, and while many parents are happy to switch to a booster seat after that, others just want one seat that goes all the way. If you’d prefer to buy a single seat with more longevity, a non-rotating option may suit you better. The Nuna Rava Next goes up to 29.4kgs (seven or eight years on average), and the Exec Next has a booster seat conversion, meaning that it lasts right from newborn up to 49.9kgs, around 12 years old! Space in your car - If you have multiple kids and multiple car seats in the car, having one that rotates might be a bit tricky. Rotating seats generally have a larger base, and the swivel motion itself can be blocked if there are other seats in the way. If you plan on having three seats side by side in the back row, swivelling is a no-go. If you have two seats, then a rotating seat might be a good option depending on how it fits into your car. If you’re not sure, give us a call at our Newmarket or Christchurch stores, and book in a time to try out some options and see what works best. What Are the Rotating Car Seat Options? Nuna NEXT System Built to work together seamlessly, the Nuna NEXT System offers flexibility, longevity, and peace of mind in one refined package. With two different base options (Base Next & Base Curv), two capsules (Pipa Next & Arra Flex), a unique lie-flat car seat (Cari Next), and a toddler seat for good measure (Todl Next), the NEXT System gives you a range of options for travelling in style. The bases come equipped with True Lock™ technology and coloured installation guides for your peace of mind, and one base can be used for all compatible products (keeping you covered for the first four years of baby’s life). Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 Pro Capsule & Maxi-Cosi Pearl 360 As part of the 360 Pro Family range, the Pebble and Pearl (when on the Family Fix 360 Pro Base) not only rotate 360°, but also slide towards you to eliminate the awkward reaching that usually comes with buckling in a little one. While the Pearl must be attached to the base in order to go in the car, the Pebble can also be seatbelt installed by itself. Nuna Pruu If you love the Todl but don’t want to bother with the separate base, the Pruu might be the seat for you. With the same detachable Side Impact Protection, integrated rebound bar, and smart-swivel lock, your little one will be travelling in stylish safety from start to finish. The big difference? The Pruu is one piece, with no separate base, making it a bit heavier to carry around, but super convenient for those who’d rather not bother with the extra pieces. We also have the new Nuna Pruu Aire with a retractable sun canopy. Nuna Rylo A new and popular choice is the Nuna Rylo. This seat has it all: 360° rotation, seat belt installation capability, and premium materials. Certified to the AS/NZS standard, it’s perfect for Trans-Tasman travellers, or anyone who’s after the latest version of Nuna’s award winning technology. Not sure which seat is right for you? Visit us in Auckland or Christchurch to see them in person. You can also book in a fitting with our team - we’ll help you find the safest, easiest option for your car and your family.
