There's something wonderfully comforting about wrapping your little one in a beautifully soft merino swaddle. Parents have been swaddling their babies for generations, and it's a tradition that continues to bring comfort to many little ones today. At Dimples, we've combined nature's wonderful fibres with thoughtful New Zealand craftsmanship to create merino baby swaddles that feel as lovely as a warm hug. Whether it's a quiet cuddle or part of your baby's settling routine, a beautiful merino wrap is one of those little essentials you'll be glad to have close by.
Merino really is one of nature's wonder fibres! Naturally breathable and temperature regulating, it helps manage moisture and warmth as conditions change. This makes merino wool a lovely choice for baby swaddles throughout the changing seasons, provided you choose the right layers for the temperature. And with its beautifully soft feel, it's easy to see why so many parents fall in love with it. Discover more about the magic of this natural fibre in our Our Merino guide.
For some babies, being gently swaddled can feel reassuring, especially during those early days when everything is new and exciting. A snug, appropriately fitted wrap may help settle little ones who are easily startled, giving them a familiar feeling of comfort. Of course, every baby is different, and finding what works for your little one is all part of the journey. If you're new to swaddling, our Sleep Solutions – Swaddles and Wraps blog is a lovely place to start. Remember to keep baby's head uncovered, allow room for natural hip movement and stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of attempting to roll.
At Dimples, we believe your little one's earliest essentials deserve a little extra care. Our merino pieces are proudly designed and made in New Zealand, bringing together quality craftsmanship, timeless style and the natural beauty of merino wool. From everyday cuddles to thoughtful gifts for a new arrival, these are the little things that become part of life's most precious memories. A traditional baby wrap is a piece of fabric that you fold around your little one. Our Snugglewraps offer a different wrapping design, while Sleep Pods feature a convenient zip-up style. Each has its own features and intended uses, so the best choice depends on your baby's stage and your preferred way of swaddling.
Merino is naturally breathable, manages moisture and helps regulate temperature. These qualities make it a versatile fabric for baby wraps, although you'll still need to choose suitable layers for the room temperature and check that your baby isn't overheating.
A merino wrap may be useful as a light cover during supervised outings, provided it doesn't cover your baby's face or restrict airflow. For car seats, avoid placing bulky fabric underneath your baby or between their body and the harness, and follow the car seat manufacturer's instructions.
Stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of attempting to roll. This applies to traditional wraps and any Snugglewrap or Sleep Pod style that restricts arm movement. An appropriately sized, arms-free sleeping bag may be a suitable next step.
