The reality of being responsible for a tiny person can take a while to sink in, and usually, a first aid kit for your baby isn’t top of mind. Since it’s a good few years until they can learn to blow their nose (usually around aged 2), a nasal decongestant combined with a saline nasal spray can help de-stuff and make feeding and sleeping a little easier. Nail clippers – cutting tiny nails for the first time can be a truly frightening experience and even worse, they seem to grow at lightning speed! Having some specific clippers on hand to keep nails short will prevent him from scratching himself. Emergency contacts – avoid scrambling on your phone by keeping important numbers like PlunketLine , Healthline and your local GP in an easy-to-find spot in your first aid kit – consider taping them to the inside of the lid. Pain relief – some form of over-the-counter pain relief such as liquid paracetamol or ibuprofen in your baby first aid kit can come in handy at all hours of the day or night. While you should always consult a professional (either your GP or an after-hours service) before administering any type of medicine, having this at the ready for fevers and minor aches and pains saves a trip to the pharmacy. An oral syringe – getting medicine into a baby can be tricky. The Haakaa Oral Syringe is an affordable, reusable syringe that is easy to use and easy to clean. Tweezers – even babies can get splinters! Rubbing alcohol swabs – grab a stash of these sterilising wipes to keep thermometers, tweezers and scissors clean. Plasters and antiseptic spray – even before they’re on the move, cuts and scrapes can happen. When they start moving, cuts and scrapes seem to happen every day! Disinfecting these and covering them with a small plaster will help them heal much faster. Gas relief drops – when burping doesn't seem to cut it, try infant gas relief drops. Stokke Sleepi V2 vs V3 - What's the Difference?
About the Stokke Sleepi The soft curves and nest-like shape of the Stokke Sleepi helps your little one feel snug and secure. While the flexible design means it’s adjustable, allowing it to change and grow with your child. Whats the Difference? Introducing the Sleepi V3 Stokke has now introduced the Sleepi V3, simplifying the range to just two lengths: The Sleepi Mini V3 (approx 0-6 months) The Sleepi Bed V3 (0-18 months) and then after removing the side (18 months-5 years) The Sleepi Mini has stayed the same size as the previous version, whereas the Sleepi Bed has been lengthened to 141cm long (so there is no longer a Junior Extension). The Sleepi V3 can be purchased in Mini or Bed size. You can also buy a Sleepi Bed Extension V3 to extend the Mini up to Bed size. Note that even though the Mini V3 and V2 have the same dimensions, there is no compatibility between the extension kits. So a Mini V3 needs a V3 Extension Kit and a Mini V2 needs a V2 Extension Kit. Please note that while you can buy an extension kit to turn the Sleepi Mini into a Bed, if you start by buying the Bed you can’t downsize it into a Mini. Another difference with the V3 is that the mattress is now sold separately. The new V3 mattresses are high-quality and firm, made with multiple layers of breathable 3D mesh. Welcoming Your Baby and Fur Baby Together 🐾👶 For many families, pets are our first “babies” – loyal companions who’ve shared the couch, the bed, and plenty of milestones. So when a new human baby comes along, it’s natural to worry about how everyone will adjust. The good news? With a bit of preparation and kindness, your pet and baby can build a beautiful bond from the very beginning. Start with Your Pet’s Personality 🐶🐱 Every animal is different, and how you prepare depends on your pet’s species, temperament, and past experiences. While goldfish or guinea pigs usually require little adjustment, cats and dogs can be more sensitive to the changes a baby brings – new sounds, smells, routines, and less attention. If your pet hasn’t spent much time around children, consider slowly exposing them to baby-related sounds (like crying or giggling) using recordings beforehand. This can help desensitise them and reduce anxiety once baby is home. A Gentle Introduction is Key Before baby arrives, introduce your pet to baby items like the pram, cot, or bassinet. Let them explore at their own pace so these new additions don’t feel overwhelming later. You can even go for practice walks with the pram to help your dog get used to the change. When baby comes home, offer your pet something with baby’s scent – like a swaddle or hat – before the first face-to-face meeting. For dogs, initial introductions should be calm and ideally on leash, in a neutral space like the front yard. For cats, allow them to approach in their own time and retreat when they’ve had enough. It’s also a good idea to wash baby’s hands after contact with your pet – especially once they start crawling!
