What is a hip seat? A hip seat helps carry baby for shorter periods, often around the house. It features a wide waistband with a padded, shelf-like seat for baby to sit on while you support them with your arm. Instead of balancing baby on your hip or carrying them in your arms, the hip seat reduces strain on your back and arms. For hands-free carrying, simply attach the back panel with shoulder straps to turn it into a hip seat carrier.

Is the Ergobaby Hip Seat baby carrier machine washable? Yes, it is machine washable. Remove the foam seat base before washing and fasten all hook and loop fasteners and buckles. Use a mild detergent that is free from bleach, perfumes, dyes, chlorine, and optical brighteners.

What is the length of the waistband? The waistband extends up to 52 inches. For best support, it should be worn and secured above the hip.

What carrying positions does it offer? Hip seat only: Hip carry, front carry (parent facing and outward facing). With back panel: Front carry (parent facing and outward facing), back carry (hands-free)

When can I use each carry position? From around 4 months (minimum 5.5 kg / 12 lbs), when baby has strong head and neck control, you can use the hip seat with removable panel in the front carry (parent facing or outward facing).

From around 6 months (minimum 7.8 kg / 17.2 lbs), when baby can sit unassisted, you can use the back carry or carry baby with just the hip seat (parent facing, outward facing, or hip).

Every baby develops differently. You can face your baby outward once they have strong head and neck control with their chin above the panel. Do not use a pillow to raise baby’s height. If baby gets sleepy or overstimulated, turn them inward to face you.
