Tips for Planning a Baby Shower
Your little bundle of joy is on its way, and you are thinking about hosting a baby shower. Dimples have put together some helpful tips when getting the planning underway.
Setting a date and time
First things first, we need a date. Figuring out the perfect timeframe can be tricky. A good guideline is around the 7-month mark. This gives you plenty of time afterward to organise gifts and decide what you still need to purchase before your baby arrives.
When picking a time of day, it depends on the type of shower you are holding (i.e. brunch or afternoon tea). I recommend allowing 3 hours but expect it to run slightly under or over depending on your guests.
Inviting guests
There are no limitations on numbers when it comes to inviting guests, it’s whatever you feel comfortable with. Make sure you give at least 5 weeks’ notice for your guests to RSVP and this gives them plenty of time to organise a gift.
When creating a guest list, think about if you want just women there or if you are wanting men and children as well. A popular trend right now is a Baby-Q in the afternoon where families can come and celebrate with the happy couple and bring a plate for the BBQ.
Theme and decorations
This is when the fun starts, picking colours, balloons, photo walls. This is entirely personalised, and you can let yourself get carried away. The best advice is to keep it simple as it must be packed down at the end.
Catering
Food! Ask yourself, if you were attending an event at this time of the day, what selection of food and drink would you be expecting. Is it a small morning tea with a slice and a cuppa or are your guests expecting a bit more of a bite?
Depending on the size of your guest list will depend on if you can do this yourself or if you need to hire someone.
Thinking about what gifts you need
Finally, everyone wants to come to shower you with gifts before the baby arrives. Think about what you would like to ask for and how you would like to ask for these items.
On our website we have an essential checklist, this could be a helpful tool when thinking about what you still need before your little one arrives.
Lastly and Most importantly, remember this is a celebration and an exciting time!
Put on some music, a comfortable dress, eat some delicious food and celebrate with loved ones.
