Dimples and Merino Wool

Dimples and Merino Wool

By sourcing the finest grade merino, (and along with the skill of our New Zealand-based sewers) we are able to produce garments that look good wash after wash and will last for years.

Australia is the world’s largest producer of fine micron merino wool, and with it being a natural and renewable source; we are able to produce quality products that have a minimal environmental impact. We believe the environment does not have to be sacrificed for quality.

Why choose high-quality merino for your baby?

Nature and Nurture

Year after year, with the combination of water, air, sunshine and grass over 70 million sheep produce a natural and renewable fibre; wool. When choosing the right clothes for your baby starts with a sustainable fibre like merino wool to keep your baby comfortable and snug.

Man-made synthetic blends are both itchy and heavy and don’t provide babies with the essential benefits and properties that merino wool has to offer, instead, they can cause irritation and lack resilience.

Soft, stretchy, comfortable

Merino wool fibres are extremely fine and hard-wearing. They have a much lower micron when compared to other wool fibres; this is why merino wool feels soft and luxuriously gentle, without feeling scratchy against your skin. The long fibres and natural elasticity help merino wool garments stretch with movement, yet still return to their original shape. This makes them ideal for busy, active babies and toddlers.

Warm or Cool

Merino wool is active, which means it behaves differently depending on whether the body is hot or cold. In cold weather, the crimped fibres trap warm air next to the skin. When it’s hot, Merino wool fibres absorb perspiration and move it away from the body, as this is evaporated it helps lower body temperature even further, creating a stable and comfortable microclimate against the skin.

In a recent study where participants were required to wear merino sleepwear in hot (29° Celsius) conditions, their sleep was recorded longer, with faster sleep onset and less frequent waking. The study also showed that in both cold (17° Celsius) and neutral (22° Celsius) conditions, the combination of wool sleepwear and bedding saw participants have a more efficient sleep, compared to the testing that used non-wool sleepwear and bedding.

This unique property makes merino ideal for babies, who are too young to properly regulate their temperature, and can't tell you if they are hot or cold.

Easy Care

Like most merino garments, you can wash your Dimples’ babywear in the machine on a delicate cold cycle with similar colours and garments. You can use a gentle stain remover, but might find you rarely have to – the wool fibres have a natural protective outer layer that repels liquids and reduces staining. Your garments will also keep their shape – the fibres are like coiled springs that pop back into position.
